Welcome To The Dollhouse: Kitty

Monday, August 16th, 2010

I know it’s been a while since we’ve done something over here at The Atlanta Dolls, but we’re working on getting this loafing ass ship back in full motion. While we’re making changes, we decided it was time to add an extra pair of hands around here. Our newest addition to the pack, Kitty, is a writer, rapper and another resident wild child around the building. Check out her blog here.

Black Lips/Pierced Arrows Split EP

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Atlanta’s very own, The Black Lips (top), and Portland based band, Pierced Arrows (bottom) have teamed up with Scion AV to release a limited edition 7″ split EP that drops today. It’s part of a series where where they bring bands to NYC to play a free show and record limited edition 7″s – all sales go directly to the artists. I never listened to much of Pierced Arrows, but I have to say that I was impressed with “The Doorway”. I already know that The Black Lips never disappoint me and neither did their homage to their favorite napkin on “The Best Napkin I Ever Had”.

Click through the cover art to download a few tracks off the EP. Enjoy.

West Coast Wednesday | KID

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Beamer, Benz or Bentley has become one of those overused ass beats that everybody and their mama wants to rap over. I call beats like these Hoe Beats because they just simply get around. I hadn’t heard a version that I liked more than the original…until I heard this one. I have to say that I’m super impressed by KID’s flow. He’s an LA native (if I’m not mistaken) who’s easily better than a lot of guys in the game and I wouldn’t be surprised if he garners some big attention soon. (And completely irrelevant to the song and why I like it, he’s got dope style that I couldn’t really ignore.) Check out the video and download his verse, here and follow him on twitter here @itsKID.

Alpha Females: Lesson One

Monday, May 10th, 2010

By definition, Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Symbolically, it represents something that comes first or has the most importance. In a wolf’s world, the Alpha is the highest ranking member of the pack.

In the human, more specifically the human female world, there’s some confusion about what an Alpha is. Some people think that if you possess these two qualities that you’re an Alpha and everyone should grovel at your feet. Pause that mindframe, get to the end of the alphabet, Omega, and have a seat. Let me go ahead and clear some things up for you a little bit…

  • Being a bitch does not make you an Alpha Female…it just makes you a bitch: Being a bitter, unpleasant person makes people not want to be around you. You roam alone and you think the rest of the world stays away from you because a they respect you. No. You’re wrong. They stay away from you because you are a cancer to any positive energy within a 10 foot radius of you. Knock that off. Stand your ground without being downright nasty. There’s a huge difference.
  • Being pretty does not make you an Alpha Female…it just makes you attractive: Don’t think looking good will automatically boost you up to Alpha status. You can look good and still be dumber than a sack of rocks. Sorry.

Things that may make you an Alpha Female, moreover a Luxe Lobalita, include, but aren’t limited to: being assertive, having unfaltering confidence without being egotistical, not being mediocre, and never being perceived as weak.
