Freddie Gibbs is playing in Atlanta at the Spring 4th Center on August 28th. If you haven’t heard his Str8 Killa EP you’re missing out on some of the most authentic hip-hop of the moment; no one is rapping like Freddie and he delivers live, too.

Check out the Str8 Killa No Filla mixtape here:

The Atlanta Dolls Interview Envy On The Coast

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Greta and I attended one of the most historic shows of all time, The Fall Of Troy farewell tour and it was bittersweet. In light of the somber mood of one my favorite bands departing, I got the special opportunity to interview one of my new favorite bands, Envy on the Coast. I must say, they’re some of the most down to earth, coolest guys you’ll ever meet. Their sound is like no other band out there, with groovy rhythms and melodies, and Ryan’s dynamic voice, which makes for an amazing live show and album. I got a chance to talk singer, Ryan Hunter and bassist, Jeremy Velardi, about the band history, and their new album, Low Country, which I suggest you run and go get it.

I know the lighting was really terrible, but we were victims of circumstance and sometimes you just have to deal. I think of it as mood lighting anyway. It gives it a certain ambience, don’t you think?

Jonny Craig

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Greta and I got lost trying to find a little venue called, The 7, in Douglasville, GA. To our surprise it was hidden in a strip mall next to a Dollar General, all ratchetness aside, the venue was pretty legit. Walking up to the doors we were greeted by Poopie Sanchez, Jonny Craig’s tour manager at the time, and led to a clad of white vans. We got the special opportunity to speak with Jonny Craig about his solo career and touring with former band, Dance Gavin Dance. Jonny has one of those soulful voices that immediately draws you in. Check out his album and his cover of Justin Timberlake’s, Cry Me River. (Surprisingly, our video of his performance was featured on a bunch of sites) I forgot that Justin sang the song for a minute. Jonny’s voice is amazing! Enjoy the interview!

P.O.S.

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

If you don’t know his name, then you should by the end of this interview. I got the special opportunity to talk to P.O.S. over the phone about what get’s him pissed off and what makes his message stand out beyond the rest. P.O.S. is a Minneapolis native with an arsenal of words he’s ready to unload at anytime. Don’t get mistaken by his humble demeanor, because once he hits the stage, its lights out! He did something unprecedented at his show at the Masquerade and you, my friend, should feel a world of disappointment that you weren’t there. Midway through his set, he took his performance from onstage to the middle of the crowd. It felt like a revival in there with everyone chanting the lyrics to his songs as the music echoed through the venue. It was amazing! This man is sick with it! I never put anything up here that I am not a fan myself, so I’m telling you to get his album, Never Better.

Wanya: So, for everyone who doesn’t know, what does P.O.S. stand for?
