Atlanta Dolls Salute x Lena Horne

Monday, May 10th, 2010

I would just like to take a few moments out of my night to salute one of the baddest women to ever do it in the entertainment industry. Unfortunately she passed on to the after life at the age of 92 yesterday. For those who don’t know who she was or what she did I’ll give you a brief run down. She was the first black performer to get a major contract with a Hollywood studio. She was also a civil rights activist and rubbed shoulders with the likes of W.E.B DuBois. Sadly, she didn’t get to rise to the heights that black stars do today, but she didn’t do bad for herself given her circumstances. To me she is the epitome of elegance and class a trait that is surely missing in young women today. Frankly, I think young women now days need to look back a few generations and take a few notes.

RIP Lena Horne
